I became involved with MDS UK following my grandfather’s diagnosis back in 2017.
Seeing my grandfather’s initial shock and sense of isolation that comes with being diagnosed with a ‘rare’ disease, I contacted MDS UK and we attended a patient support group meeting.
I soon became aware of just how helpful these groups were for both patients and their families/carers. This encouraged me to set up a Midlands Regional group for which I became the ambassador and held my first meeting in 2019. The meeting was a huge success with a huge turnout including specialist doctors and CNSs.
Since the COVID pandemic all subsequent meetings have been held online and co-hosted with the Yorkshire Regional group.
I am currently studying medicine at university and enjoy playing a bit of golf in my spare time. My experience as an MDS UK ambassador has invigorated my passion for providing patients with holistic care beyond the medical interventions. The people I have met along the way have not only inspired me personally but have helped shape the type of doctor I aim to become.
