Iron Overload
Hi everyone, My haemo tells me I dont have to have my chelation pump anymore as she went to a training seminar and a Dr said iron dosent affect the heart or joints etc. I have been off it now for 2/3 months and feel fine. My transfusions are now every 5 to 8 days, not the best but still breathing. Recently I reduced my Prednisone and my blood went down to 7.2, 5 days after the last transfusion. So am going to ask the Dr if Prednisone helps to keep it stable . Anybody know

Re: Iron Overload
Hi Delwyn,
not sure if we have spoken in the past already - but it would be good to have another chat.
Your question is very clinical so the forum is not necessarily the best place for an accurate and precise answer.
You would also need to supply more details as there may be more than one reason why iron chelation was stopped.
Please - would you call us - just so we make sure you have access to all the clinical advice you need?
Generally - do remember that your clinical nurse specialist can be of enormous help to explain things you may not have had a chance to ask in consultation. Don't hesitate to call them to get extra clinical information.
If anyone would like to respond regarding iron chelation - please do it in the Transfusion/Iron Chelation folder - this way all topics stay grouped. Thank you.
Hope to hear from you soon Delwyn.
