Post by Sophie » 08 Jan 2010 17:49

One of our specialist nurses, Natalie Singer has forwarded us the details of a course she isually runs for cancer patients. This year she would like to extend the invitation to MDS patients as well.
If you live in or around Glasgow, please feel free to contact her directly.

Please find all details below:

Moving Forward
A self-help course for patients living with cancer and their carers

When you are told you have cancer, it affects not just you as a patient, but also those who are close to and caring for you.
You may be reaching the end of your treatment or your disease have stabilised in order that you can begin to live a more
normal life. However, you may now have concerns about how you will cope once your visits to the cancer centre are less
often. Your loved ones may have these same fears too. It is normal to have feelings like these as the pattern of living with cancer once again changes.
We want to help you cope with this change and would like to invite you to join us on the Moving Forward course. The course aims to support you in helping you to know what to expect and how to deal with any worries or concerns that you may have.

Where?
The course will be held in:-
The Friends of the Beatson
Level 4
Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre
1053 Great Western Road
Glasgow G12 0YN

When?
Wednesdays
from January 27th to March 31st 2010
1.30pm - 3.30pm

What will happen on the course?
The course is open to both patients and carers. There will be no more than 14 people in the group. You will be in a safe, comfortable and private space in the Friends of the Beatson.
We hope that by coming along you will become more confident and that you will find ways of dealing with any symptoms or worries you may have when at home.
The topics we will cover are on the back page of this leaflet. After each session there will time to talk with each other, share experiences and ask any questions.
Tea, coffee and a light snack will be provided.
At the end of the course we will be grateful, if you are willing, to fill out a questionnaire. We will ask your comments on what you have found helpful or unhelpful about the course. This will help us to plan future sessions.

Want to come along?
Spaces are limited, so if you would like to come along to the course, please telephone:-
