Oxford Regional Group - Meetings

Post by Sophie » 24 May 2011 19:09

We have many people in Oxford - who recently met up at the Churchill Hospital.
Over 20 people met up on the 16th May 2011.

Please use this page to organise informal or more formal meetings and to update others who might be interested in joining you.

We need someone from the Oxford group to update this folder and post the date of the next meeting.
Please also post feedback about the first meeting.
Thank you

Oxford MDS Support Group Meeting

Post by ClaudiaRichards » 23 Oct 2012 17:01

Date: Friday 23rd November
Time: 4.00 pm (room available from 3.30 pm)

Location: Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre, Meeting Room 1, Level 2, Churchill Hospital.
Guest speaker: Prof Vyas

All patients in the Oxford and Thames Valley area welcome to attend, as well as relatives and friends. This is an opportunity to get to know one another, share experiences and increase the support network in the area.

For registration - or if you require more information - please do not hesitate to contact Lianne Jones (at Oxford Cancer Centre) on 01865 572023.

Gwyneth Brown-Lowe and I are two MDS patients who attend meetings of the Oxford Patient Support Group. We have offered to help Lianne with the co-ordination of the Group and its meetings. We also feel some people may value the opportunity to have contact with other members of the Group between meetings.

If you are interested, please email me on claudia.richards@fsmail.net with your full name, contact telephone number, preferred email address and the name of the hospital at which you (or your family member) are being treated. These details will be circulated to members of the Group who have opted for direct contact with others. If you would be willing to act as a point of contact at your local hospital (for instance, taking in posters/leaflets, being a contact for any MDS patients who have not previously come to the Support Group meetings), please also mention this in your email.

Gwyneth and I also welcome any suggestions for future meeting topics/speakers and for any other type of event (Coffee Morning, Fundraiser etc.) which you feel the Group should consider.

Dear Oxford team - Lianne, Claudia and Gwyneth,
wonderful progress - thank you for your cooperation and efforts to increase the awareness about this regional MDS group.

As ever - keep posting your new meetings on the forum - on this page.
I have created a new folder for general Oxford chats - if people want to keep in touch that way.

The main London office will always be there for support and advice - general or specific.
Claudia and Gwyneth will be there to coordinate the group and organise meetings - but not to act as patient liaison.
Please all remember they are both patients themselves and need some rest in between meetings.
Any support needed in between meetings - please always call the main office.
For clinical advice - always call your clinical nurse specialist - they are the best placed people to help you.

Thank you all - and we wish you a successful and helpful next meeting.
