On the 13 April 2019 15 years old Sam Allen and her amazing friends competed on the Monopoly run alongside over 168 teams travelling by foot, train and bus, visiting famous and specially selected Monopoly locations.
The Monopoly run is a competition between explorers, networks, and leaders that takes place in London every year. The aim is to get to as many locations on the Monopoly board as possible. When you get there, you have to take a picture at a specific location and answer a question.
Samantha’s explorer team came 46th and it was her first time competing! They managed to get to 14 set locations and 6 bonus ones. Samantha dressed up as the monopoly man and her friend Hollie dressed up as the community chest. What a fantastic team of young people!
The run was in memory of Sam's grandma, who sadly passed away from Myelodysplastic syndromes earlier this year.
This is what Sam told us:
My name is Sam Allen, I’m 15 years old, and after losing my granny to MDS earlier this year I decided to raise some money for your charity. I took part in the monopoly run as part of my girl guiding group (monopolyrun.com) and I decided to get sponsored for the event. I also decided to dress up as the monopoly man for the whole day in central London!
For us it is so important to get Sam to fundraise for us. Sam and her friends made a lot more people aware of MDS, a very rare condition which is generally unknown amongst the public.
We would like to say a BIG BIG THANK YOU to Sam and all her friends and sponsors.
All the money raised goes to ensure that MDS patients and families receive the attention and information they need. See here what we do for all MDS patients and why we need funds.
