TFL & London Underground Charity event for MDS UK!
MDS UK is having an incredible amount of wonderful support and cooperation this year.
We are delighted to announce several fabulous fundraising events – thanks to the amazing work of one of our London marathon runners – Daniel Holah.
Daniel works for TfL / London Underground – who have a history of assisting many charities. Daniel and his team have helped us to organise 5 collection days in 5 underground stations in London during April. To kick-start this amazing opportunity, they have also organised a brilliant fundraising night on the 10th April – with a prize raffle !
We’d like to thank Daniel and his colleagues for all this phenomenal support – details follow below.
About Daniel…
“My name is Daniel Holah and I am helping to organise a fund raising night for MDS on Friday 10th April. I am also running the Virgin London Marathon on April 26th and so far through my sponsorship page have managed to raise just under £2500 so far.
I am really keen to try and raise as much money as possible as the charity has been a real pillar of strength for my brother in law Gavin who has been in and out of Kings College Hospital this last few years being treated for Myelodysplastic Syndrome and also my sister and her 3 children Olivia, Tilly and Ellis.
Through my work at London Underground I am fortunate enough to work with some really great people who are just as keen as me to try and raise as much as possible and we will be doing a couple of events to help do this.
1. Pub Night / Quiz / Raffle – Friday April 10th
Venue: Theodore Bullfrog Pub.
Address: 26-30 John Adam Street (off Villiers Street).
Time: 7 pm onwards.
Daniel explains !
“On Friday 10th April there will be a Charity fund raising night at the Theodore Bullfrog pub in Charing Cross London which has been set up by myself and 3 of my wonderful colleagues, Maria King (my brilliant boss) and 2 of the hardest working enthusiastic CSA staff Ian Redpath and Richard Boreham. They have been instrumental in securing the venue and arranging events and prizes etc for the night.
The night will kick off with a fun quiz with a disco type theme afterwards. We will be doing various things on the night to raise as much as possible such as a raffle, a sweepstake where people can guess my finishing time and we will probably get the trusty buckets out again !
I am currently trying to secure some decent raffle prizes so if anybody can donate then that would be wonderful !
We currently have tickets for Windsor Racecourse, tickets to see Mrs. Browns Boys at the O2, tickets for Premier League darts in Brighton, tickets for London Eye, 1 months gym membership at LAX gym and a shopping voucher for Morrisons Supermarket and M&S.
We are hoping for a really good turnout from work colleagues, friends, family and also from the charity itself ! ”
From the MDS Team:
- We encourage anyone who can to go join in what will be a great evening !
However... Please let us know beforehand, as space is limited in the pub. - If you want to enter the quiz part of the evening, the cost is £20 per team.
- If you are unable to attend but would like a raffle ticket, please contact us.
- If you have any prizes you would like to donate, please contact us.

2. Bucket Collections At Selected TfL Stations: April 04 / 11 / 16 / 18 and 19.
Daniel explains !
Throughout April we have arranged for MDS and my own staff at London Underground to carry out bucket collections on London Underground stations where large events will be taking place and this has the potential to raise some good sums of cash as well as being a bit of fun for all involved.
We will have people shaking buckets on the following days:
- April 04. Arsenal Station (Arsenal v Liverpool BPL Fixture / est 60,000 attendance)
- April 11. Putney Bridge Station (The Oxford v Cambridge University Boat Race / est 50,000 crowd)
- April 16. North Greenwich Station (Paul Simon & Sting in concert at the O2 Arena / 17,000 capacity)
- April 18. Wembley Park Station (first FA Cup Semi-final / est 90,000 crowd)
- April 19. Wembley Park Station (second FA Cup Semi-final / est 90,000 crowd)
Over these 5 events the potential number of customers using the stations will be close to 300,000 so some huge potential. I am hoping that my own staff and also some volunteers from MDS can help with shaking some buckets and make these days fun and hopefully raise lots of funds for the charity.
If you’re going to any of these events then please look out for us!
From the MDS Team: Very important request to all our members !
If you, or anyone you know, can help us out with the bucket collection – even if only for an hour or two – we would love to hear from you. Email: mds-uk@mds-foundation.org
Many thanks in advance.
