- This event has passed.
For a month, our amazing Chairman, Ted Peel, “rocked down to” the end of his communal drive and back for 26 minutes a day to raise vital funds for MDS UK.
A month of running later and Ted had passed his target of £2000 for MDS UK’s vital work! He persevered through injuries and other difficulties, spurred on by the generosity of his supporters (and his favourite running songs
"PUSHING MYSELF TO COMPLETE THE RUNS HAD HELPED TO IMPROVE MY FITNESS LEVEL."
Ted reflects on his experience and offers some advice for others wishing to fundraise for us:
“I felt relieved that I managed to complete the task I had set myself. I also felt that pushing myself to complete the runs had helped to improve my fitness level.
“Initially, the daily run was difficult, not having undertaken any fitness activities for a considerable time but it became easier.
“However, it appears that I have an autoimmune disease and my lower left leg and toes in both feet are losing feeling which made running feel quite odd and a little tricky.
“I passed my target thanks to the generosity of so many people. A problem in completing such an event is not being able to say thank you to everyone who donated.
“I would advise others make sure you are able and fit enough to participate; to start slowly and gradually build up; use distraction tactics to take your mind off the task (eg music) and most importantly, to stop or have a break if the task proves too demanding, physically or mentally.
“Finally, may I now say thank you to those whom I was unable to thank at the time. I couldn’t have done it without you!
During this pandemic, the generous donations towards fundraisers like Ted are essential if we are to continue our life-changing work.
Thank you, Ted- you’re a superstar! We hope your newly found fitness means your transplant later in the year goes as smoothly as possible!
You can still be part of Ted’s virtual “band on the run”, please visit Ted's JustGiving event page to donate to the event!
