Unfortunately, Fiona Murray and Mamas Pirilla Greek Charity Night event, due to take place on the 20th of June, had to be postponed due to the current Covid 19 situation. We will update you when we have a new date.

Mamas Pirillas sent us the following message:

The NHS is currently, quite rightly, a focus for a lot of people's current donations, which we have also contributed too.

However, we know that charities are also struggling during this time including the ones that we are supporting for our event and they should not be forgotten at these difficult time as they do a fantastic job in supporting patients and their families and massive work in the areas of research to tackle these cancers. With the current situation they have found themselves very underfunded from many of their usual income streams.

Therefore we already had a Virgin Money Giving Page set up that was initially for people that couldn't attend our charity event but still wanted to contribute in some way. Thank you to the couple of people that already had donated here.

We are re-posting the page here in the hope that you could make a donation, however small or large, to the charities we chose which were Prostate Cancer UK and MDS UK Support Group which, as you know, both have deeply personal connections to us both.

We appreciate times are hard financially for people at the moment but every little helps. Thank you in advance for your support.

Love Mamas and Fiona - and stay safe.

Fiona and Mamas Story

"Both of us have been diagnosed with cancer and have dealt with the issues associated with this and now we feel it's time to give something back.

Mamas was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2019 and had surgery and radiotherapy in the last 12 months and we are hopeful to have beaten this disease. Mamas would never have known he had the disease had it not been for his eldest brother Andreas who sadly passed away from this after fighting it for 5 years. For Andreas sadly the diagnosis was too late to treat the disease. Due to the family history Mamas was tested for Prostate Cancer and was unfortunately also diagnosed with it however, we are thankful that it was diagnosed early enough to have treatment which will hopefully beat this disease. The reason for this event therefore is in memory of his beloved brother, and Mamas's own battle and to raise as much awareness of the disease as possible to help other men realise the importance of being tested."

Fiona was diagnosed with MDS 5q- (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) in 1999 and has been on a successful drug treatment plan for several years, hopefully keeping things at bay. Fiona is Secretary of the MDS Patient Support Group and attends meetings and national and local events regularly.

MDS Patient Support

We are immensely grateful to Fiona and Mamas for their dedication and generosity.

Thank you as well to all their friends and family for your contribution. Thanks to your donations we are able to support MDS patients and their loved ones at those critical moments when anxiety strikes.

We provide a 1-2-1 helpline opened 5 days a week, organise local meetings and maintain an updated website and Facebook Group, among other activities. Thanks for making this possible!
