Another great fundraising event to support our charity taking place on the MDS World Awareness Day on 25th October near Preston.
MDS UK is ever so grateful to the fantastic Steve Keeling and his Motley crew for organising this event. Below is a message from Steve about his decision to mark his MDS journey by undertaking yet another journey – 21 mile bike ride around the Guild Wheel in Preston – just twelve months after the transplant:
“In August 2013 I underwent a bone marrow transplant following being diagnosed with Myelodysplasia (a condition that affects the normal functioning of your bone marrow and the production of healthy blood cells). As you can imagine this was a big shock not only to me but to all of my family and friends. Thanks to my donor brother and the amazing staff at The Christie I am now in remission twelve months on from the transplant.
As a huge thank you I wanted to give something back to two fantastic charities:”The Christie” and the “MDS UK Patient Support Group” who both provide invaluable help and support to Myelodysplasia sufferers and their families. To do this I have enlisted a motley crew of dads, brothers, sons, nephews and one or two others (aged from 11 to 70) to join me in a “Dads & Lads” 21 mile bike ride around the Guild Wheel in Preston on 25 October 2014. As well as raising funds for these two amazing charities, this is also a chance to celebrate a personal milestone for me with my family and friends.”
What an excellent way to mark your personal milestone!
We are so happy to see you in remission, doing well and undertaking this great challenge. We think you and your family are a true inspiration for other patients and their close ones.
We look forward to seeing the photos from the day!
