ANGLIA REGION MDS SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS

PATIENT TO PATIENT SUPPORT FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROMES

MEETING ON A 6 – 8 WEEK BASIS FOR COFFEE AND A CHAT WITH FELLOW PATIENTS, FRIENDS AND CARERS.

Please note – the new haematology consultant Dr Pramila Krishnamurthy started her new post at Addenbrooke’s in July 2013.
Pramila attended the last Anglia meeting of 2013 for an informal Q&A session and was really glad to meet all members.
It is planned to re-invite Pramila to future meetings – if her time table allows.
We also plan 1-2 trial meetings over either a weekend – or a weekday late afternoon time, to allow those of you who work attend the meeting.
Please email us if this is of interest so we can start scheduling this additional sessions.

We would like to invite patients from further afield to join too.
Patients and relatives from the following areas – please get in touch – to submit your suggestions and feedback:

Ipswich – King’s Lynn – Hinchingbrooke – Peterborough – West Suffolk – Bedford

20th January:  Start time is 10.30 and the guest speaker will be at about 11.15, we have extended the meeting so we will now finish at 12.45.  Please feel free to drop in between the stated times if you can, we will look forward to seeing you.

At our first meeting of the year on 20th January our guest speaker will be Janet Hickman.  Janet is a Macmillan tutor and a former cancer patient, she is coming to talk to us about a couple of course that she is going to be running at the Cambridge Cancer Help Centre.

The first course is called Expert Patients Programme (EPP) and is designed for adults living with any long term health condition.

The second course is The HOPE course for people affected by cancer.

There will be a question and answer session afterwards.  Janet will give her talk at about 11.15.

There might still be places available on the courses and if anyone was inclined to join up after the talk then this can be arranged.  More information below:

The HOPE course will commence on Tuesday 28th January and lasts for 7 weeks.

The EPP course will commence on Monday 10 February and lasts for 6 weeks.

At our second meeting on 31st March our guest speaker will be Peter Cornwell

Peter who was an MDS patient who underwent a transplant in November 2012 and is going to talk about life, before during and after transplant.
